The Role of Nanotechnology in Enhancing the Stability of Injectable Biological Formulations
Injectable biological formulations are highly sensitive to environmental changes and shear forces. The use of nano-systems can improve the physicochemical stability of active proteins during storage.

Structural Protection of Proteins Using Nanocarriers

Peptides and therapeutic proteins in aqueous solutions are prone to aggregation and hydrolytic degradation. By using biodegradable liposomal and polymeric nanocarriers, active pharmaceutical molecules are placed inside a protected core. This nanometric architecture prevents direct contact of the biological agent with destructive environmental factors.

Liposomal and polymeric nanocarriers not only increase the thermal stability of the product but also pave the way for targeted drug release pathways in the target tissue.

Modulating Immunogenicity and Improving Biocompatibility

Another key advantage of nanotechnology is reducing unwanted immune responses against injectable therapeutic proteins. Polymeric coatings such as polyethylene glycol (PEGylation) can increase the half-life of the biomolecule in the blood and prevent early clearance by the reticuloendothelial system.
